52 Figments :: A Creative Exercise for 2006
Figment [fig·ment] noun
1. Something invented, made up, or fabricated: just a figment of the imagination.
2. A contrived or fantastic idea; "a figment of the imagination"
Synonyms: creation of the brain, creature of the imagination, fabrication, fantasy, fiction, figment, imagination, invention, phantom of the mind, whimsy, wildest dream
52 weeks, 52 questions, 52 creations, 52 opportunities to think outside the box, make something up, ponder your most outlandish dreams and have some fun. At the beginning of each week for 2006, I will post a downloadable pdf foldable mailer with a new question. Some questions will be silly, some challenging, some straightforward and some completely outrageous. Print the file, cut along the dotted line, create your answer - write it, draw it, collage it, anything goes - and mail it to me! You will need:
Pen and/or any other art supplies you want to use.
Tape.
Stamps.
Your wildest imagination!
Feel free to sign your postcards or send them anonymously, whatever you prefer. I will scan and upload all the cards I receive each week so everyone can see all the different figments each week's question inspired. This week's postcard is on my site and ready for downloading. Click here to begin!
Send in your figments & pass this link along!
"I will not die an unlived life. I will not live in fear of falling or catching fire. I choose to inhabit my days, to allow my living to open me, to make me less afraid, more accessible, to loosen my heart until it becomes a wing, a torch, a promise. I choose to risk my significance; to live so that which came to me as seed goes to the next as blossom and that which came to me as blossom goes on as fruit." -Dawna Markova
Lovely post and beautiful quote. Inspiring. Thanks

Most of us don't like risk and uncertainty. That's too bad, because there's no shortage of either.
In these crazy times, we have to keep our eyes on the things that matter most: the life and health of our families, our communities, the planet. And to keep our sanity, some of us need to reserve a bit of time for reading and for writing. It is said that writers are people who, as children, did not receive sufficient rejection either from adults or peers and so are compelled to seek it relentlessly in later life ;-)
CODA: Maybe we are crazy. Maybe we will change the world

That photo is nice, but it reminds me of the disgusting blisters I have on the bottom of my feet right now. Sorry to gross you out...but my feet are so gnarly. Great idea with the 52 figments, though!

I love this idea! It reminds me of the postsecret phenomena, but less scary. I can't wait to see what everyone creates.

Great idea, Swirly! I've already printed mine out, and I came up with a theme for 2006 a few days ago, so I think I'm good at least for this first one ... and hopefully more, of course.
